The Gran Recapte is one of the most important solidarity initiatives in Catalonia
The 4 Food Banks of Catalonia annually organize the Great Food Collection throughout the country, the most important solidarity action for collecting food, financial donations and raising awareness that takes place in Catalonia.
The Gran Recapte was born in 2009 with the aim of collecting and recovering food for people in vulnerable situations and to raise awareness in society about the need to fight against food waste. In the first year, thousands of kilos of food were collected thanks to the solidarity of companies and donors and the dedication of hundreds of volunteers. Currently, it is celebrated simultaneously throughout Catalonia with thousands of collection points spread across supermarkets and other establishments, turning every corner of Catalonia into a point of solidarity.

The Great Collection takes place every year thanks to the participation and collaboration of institutions, distribution chains, educational centers, companies, volunteers, and citizens.
Every year, around 10,000 volunteers participate in more than 2,000 collection points, sorting the collected food as well as in different solidarity activities throughout Catalonia to cover the basic food needs of more than 230,000 people in Catalonia.

Volunteering is the fundamental piece that allows the entire operation of Food Banks and major actions like the Great Collection to be possible every day and year after year. Our gratitude will never be as great as your generosity.
